Itanagar, Jan 24: The Bharatiya Janata Party Arunachal Pradesh today joined the nationwide protest against the “saffron terror” remarks made by Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde recently. Shinde had reportedly accused the BJP and RSS of promoting Hindu terrorism in the country. The BJP in its strongest terms condemned the highly ‘irresponsible and unbecoming statements’ made by Shinde. It is not only “unacceptable but dangerous" for the country, the party said.
Party protest rally was also organized at Seppa (East Kameng) led by the District President, Loku Sono and later burnt the effigy of Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde which was joined by the party’s workers and frontal wings functionaries and public. BJP district unit also burnt the effigy of Shinde in nine districts of Arunachal Pradesh, the party said. The BJP also demanded removal of Shinde from union cabinet.

Awareness campaign on Health and Family welfare progs
ITANAGAR, Jan 24: Directorate of Field Publicity, Tawang unit had organized awareness campaign on health and family welfare programme at Kyableng, Kakaling School and PWD colony on Janyary 21, 22 and 23 respectively.
The programmes were organized in close coordination with school authority and PRAGYA.
On the occasion mass public rallies, quiz competition and mass meeting were conducted in which the resource person K Doji DPM NRHM Tawang highlighted on maternal and child health and various NRHM schemes.
He advised the students to quit consumption of Mono sodium glutamate added food products.
Officials from PRAGYA also delivered lectures on AIDS, Malaria, Dengue, Diabetes, H1N1 flu and other health related subjects.
Training on soil testing
ITANAGAR, Jan 24: A training cum demonstration on soil testing and method of lime application was conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Lower Subansiri at Siiro village today.
Subject Matter Specialist in Soil Science Hage Munth demonstrated soil testing to the farmers and told them the benefit of liming in crop nutrient management and also Do’s and Don’ts in lime application procedure. Around 12 farmers have benefitted from the training.
AYC demands new fire tender at Basar
ITANAGAR, Jan 24: Assembly Youth Congress (AYC), 29 Basar has demanded immediate replacement of the old fire tender besides providing another new one at Basar fire station.
The demand was made during tahe AYC team’s recent visit to Nyigam Village (not Ragam as mentioned in earlier news item), where a devastating fire gutted the dwelling house of family. The team was led by AYC Basar president Toli Kamdak, vice president Jumdak Basar and general secretary Jummi Basar.
GZS conducts medical camp
ITANAGAR, Jan 24: Green Ziro Society (GZS) in collaboration with RK Mission Hospital, Itanagar conducted two days free Medical Camp on January 16 and 17.
More than 600 patients, including old age and children have benefited from this health camp. Free health check up, medication along with free laboratory and blood tests were conducted by a medical team from RK Mission hospital, including ENT, Medicine and Child specialists.
“However, many patients could not avail the opportunity of various laboratory tests that came to their door step for want of electricity, it lamented and condemned the power department for not supplying electricity during the camp despite requests.
East Siang DA launches drive against tints in vehicle windows
PASIGHAT, Jan 24: East Siang Deputy Commissioner RK Mishra in an executive order has directed all car owners to remove dark tints/glasses from their vehicles in their own on or before January 31.
Issuing an executive order he informed that Supreme Court of India has banned black films of any percentage of tints.
“There is an alarming rise of heinous crimes, sexual assault, alcoholism, drug abuse inside the vehicle, especially with black films for which zero tolerance approach would be adopted,” the order said.
The Deputy Commissioner has instructed the district transport authority to conduct regular drive against tinted films on car windows with help of police.
He assured that a massive drive would be conducted from February one against cars with tinted films irrespective of their percentage and fine would be imposed against the violators and tinted film removed immediately. DIPRO

GB’s death mourned
ITANAGAR, Jan 24: Gichik Abu Welfare Society (GAWS) has deeply mourned the untimely demise of Gichik Ponung, Gaon Burah (GB) of Jhome village under Tali circle, Kurung Kumey District on January 21 at his native Village.
He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.
He was an active, straightforward person and prominent member of the society, GAWS said in a condolence message.

WCD dept. committed to girls’ welfare: Riba
ITANAGAR, Jan 24: The women and child development (WCD) department is committed to focus attention on adolescent girls to help them overcome their mental, emotional and psychological issues, said WCD director R T Riba in her key note address at a seminar here today.
The seminar with the theme ‘Girl child and the society’, was organised at Banquet Hall here to mark the National Girl Child Day today.
“It is important that young girls are informed about legislations such as the Dowry Prohibition Act, Prohibition of Child Marriage Act and Domestic Violence Act in order to make them better prepared to face the numerous challenges in life,” Riba said. She also called for halting the practice of determining the gender of unborn children.
In his address, Dr D Padung, Mission director NRHM informed that there are 927 females per 1000 males in Arunachal Pradesh, “which is much below the ideal ratio.” Tawang has the lowest with 701 females/1000 males, while Kurung Kumey has the highest with 1029 females/1000 males, he said.
Expressing concern over the prevailing ratio, Dr Padung said it would have adverse effect on the society by creating competition for marriages, encouraging abuse, trafficking, prostitution and violence against girl children. He informed that there has been no report of prenatal sex determination in Arunachal Pradesh, but urged people to report to DMOs or to the health directorate if such instances come to the fore.
RMSA state gender coordinator Ribom Basar made a PowerPoint presentation on ‘The importance of girl child education’, and enumerated the schemes being implemented for upgrading the educational status of girls, while IGP Garima Bhatnagar made a presentation on ‘Crimes against girl child and women’, through which she highlighted issues like the increase in rape cases, social and economic discrimination, legal issues, etc. She also enumerated the initiatives of the police department, like educating juvenile welfare officers, training police officers/officials, and issuing guidelines for police personnel on dealing with juveniles.
Community food and nutrition extension centre demonstration officer B Bordoloi spoke about the nutritional needs of females from childhood to adolescence. He said that the age of marriage for a girl is 18, “but it should ideally be 19, and pregnancy should be after two years of marriage to avoid malnutrition of mother and baby.”
In his address, Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) chairperson Gumri Ringu shared her experiences with cases involving violence and crimes against girl children and women in the state.
“The APSCW has submitted a recommendation to the chief minister to appoint women police officers at every police station in the state,” she informed. Citing the example of Oju Welfare Association, she urged other NGOs in the state to come forward and work for the welfare of women and children.
IAS officer Belatee Pertin called for creating awareness on the schemes, legal rights, health, etc, of the girl child by involving the state’s media.
The seminar also saw the participation of members of the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society and Nyishi Nyem Achem besides CDPOs, anganwadi workers and women from the Capital Complex.
Earlier, hundreds of girls carrying placards reading ‘Save the girl child, educate the girl child’, ‘Honour the girl child’, etc, participated in rallies organized by the WCD department in Itanagar and Naharlagun.

ITANAGAR, Jan 24: A baby gibbon was born to a family of relocated eastern Hoolock gibbons in their new home in Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary, bringing much cheer to conservationists, who rescued them.

Wildlife seized from Daporijo markets
Daporijo, Jan 24: The Forest Department, Daporijo, during a routine patrolling by Range Forest Officer Kali Paja and his team today seized wildlife from the daily markets of Daporijo.
The team seized a wild cat, a big flying squirrel and 5 small ones, 2 squirrels and 2 wild hens from Daily Market, Vegetable Market of Golden Market and Gandhi Market areas during the patrolling. A case has been registered against unknown persons under the provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972 as no one claimed the seized animals which were found in a sack and abandoned in the market.
If caught and convicted, a person is liable to imprisonment for 7 years with a fine of Rs 2 lakh, warned the department. The people are advised to desist themselves from hunting wildlife.
RFO Paja said that although patrolling is done from time to time, it has been difficult to stop the practice of illegal hunting of wildlife altogether as it is considered a traditional practice and some wild animals are used for medicinal purpose by the locals or considered as delicacies and hence there is a demand for it. Don’t mix politics with development: Tuki
JAMIN, (Kurung Kumey), Jan 24: “Please don’t mix politics with development,” appealed Chief Minister Nabam Tuki in a developmental meeting at Jamin, near Palin, in Kurung Kumey district today.
The appeal came in the wake of stray objections to the creation of a new district – Kara Dadi – with its headquarters at Jamin under proposal. The new district is proposed to be carved out of Kurung Kumey comprising two Assembly constituencies Palin and Tali.
Accepting in principle the popular demand of the people, Tuki, however resented that petty political differences often put hindrances in developmental works and cause undue delay in providing governance at the doorsteps of the needy people.

“Government has no objections to genuine demands of the people. Our main motto is governance to the people and development of all. We will bring up the issue (creation of the new district) in the next Cabinet meeting for approval then bring it on the floor of the Assembly for finalization,” Tuki assured responding to several memoranda with the single demand submitted by MLAs Takam Pario (Palin) and Markio Tado (Tali) besides other public leaders and Block Congress Committee.
Taking the example of Hawai, the headquarters of Anjaw district, which he had visited on January 2 last, Tuki asserted that if materialized Jamin should also come up like Hawai.
“Whatever we have done with older district headquarters cannot be undone. But new one’s like Jamin should come up properly planned keeping the future in mind. Like Hawai I believe Jamin, which is a virgin land, would become a model district headquarter in future,” he said.
He clarified in chaste Nyishi that creation of new district elsewhere in the country depends on the population of the proposed district. However, he said, in Arunachal Pradesh the ‘population criteria’ cannot be applied everywhere.
“Here we have to consider factors like geography, accessibility, administration and pace of development. We have to see that every section of the society, no matter how lesser in number they are, are not deprived of development and basic facilities of governance,” Tuki said.
As per the Provisional Census of 2011, the proposed district has a population of more than 46,000, which is a formidable figure in context of Arunachal Pradesh.
A private firm from New Delhi, M/S Deeba Orthographics Pvt Ltd has already surveyed the area availability at Jamin using GPS and Total Station and found that 70% of total 1085 hectares are buildable areas. Besides, there is no human habitation in the said area making it feasible for development in a planned manner.
Rajya Sabha MP and Pradesh Congress President Mukut Mithi, who accompanied the Chief Minister, endorsed the demand for creation of the new district. He reminded the people that accepting the need for accelerated development of the area, he had created Kurung Kumey district way back in 2001 as the then Chief Minister.
“Kurung Kumey today has grown up and now it is time to give birth to a child. Let this child grow on its own and find its destiny,” he said.
The meeting was also addressed by Lok Sabha MP and native of the place Takam Sanjoy, MLAs Takam Pario and Markio Tado.
Also present in the meeting were Education Minister Bosiram Siram, Chayangtajo MLA Karya Bagang, Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso, Nyapin MLA Bamang Felix, Zilla Chairperson Tarh Talo, Bamboo Resource Development Agency Vice Chairman Yura Tugung and others.
ITANAGAR, Jan 24: The underground cables through which BSNL extend Landline and Broadband services to its customers have been repeatedly damaged in many places in Capital Complex causing disruption in internet and telephone services.
All the underground telephone cables of 3000 lines were destroyed completely by PWD Highway team near Sumo Counter at Ganga on December 12, 2012 due to which all the Landline telephone and Broadband services are totally affected in Ganga Market, RKM Hospital area, Vivek Vihar, G & H Sector, Chandan Nagar, Police Headquarter and other adjoining area, claimed a BSNL release.
Similarly on January 21, the telephone cables of 900 Lines were damaged by PWD Highways thereby affecting SP (capital) office, Ganga Market, Juli road and other adjoining areas.
In addition to the above, the cable thieves are constantly wandering around and looking for such opportunities and they are stealing the exposed cable, thereby adding further difficulties for BSNL in its restoration works.
In the last 3 month, around 150 cable thefts have occurred in various places within Itanagar Township along the roadside of NH52A for which BSNL has lodged numbers of FIRs. Now, the cable damages have gone to such an extent that restoration materials are running out of stock for BSNL, the release said.
It said that BSNL outdoor staff and officers are working day and night even in Sundays and holidays to restore the services.
It denied the allegation published in some of local dailies that BSNL was not responsive in restoring the cable damages.
“BSNL is doing its best effort in restoring the telephone lines. But, with the continuous and repeated wanton damages being done by PWD (Highway), it is not possible for BSNL to provide smooth landline telephone services till further cable damages are stopped.
As the landline/broadband services are being interrupted frequently, customers may take WIMAX connections as wireless broadband and WLL for voice calls, it suggested.

The Government of India in 2008 declared January 24 of every year to be celebrated as the ‘National Girl Child Day’ with the objective of raising consciousness of the society towards the girl child so that she can be valued and respected.
Ministry of Women and Child Development has been taking a multi pronged approach to address and reverse the trend of declining child sex ratio in the country. Even though a number of project funded under Special Plan Assistance (SPA) for the current financial year have been sanctioned by the PWD is delaying the tender process, the people alleged. As per the project guideline, calling tender for the works under SPA is a mandatory process, they said.
Inordinate delay in the tender process by the Pasighat division of PWD is causing concern among the local leaders of Mebo. It was alleged that the PWD did not call tender against construction of bridge at Kadang, Tatsing and Ngopok river and thereby violated the norms and project guidelines. It also left a number of works incomplete in the area, despite full amount of fund against the projects was released, they alleged.
It may be mentioned that the PWD has a mega project for construction of road from
Ngopok to Bijary (linking Lower Dibang Valley). The fund worth Rs 10 crore was sanctioned

ITANAGAR, Jan 24: With the aim to provide opportunity to the football players of the state to hone their talents it has been decided to revive the Eagle Trophy Invitational Football Tournament from March 1, 2013.
The tournament, which was last played in the year 1997 will be organised under the aegis of Arunachal Pradesh Football Association.

Tournament (TTMSLFT), the invitational event has had three editions from 1995 to

The tournament was originally slated to be held from February 1 to capitalize on the football atmosphere that has gripped the state thanks to the recently concluded XII TTMSLFT at Pasighat. However the dates were changed because this would have resulted in a clash of dates with this year’s edition of the Santosh Trophy, which would be played from February 1 to March 3 in Uttar Pradesh and Kerala, meaning some of the state’s top players may miss out on participating in the invitational tournament, informed member of the organising committee Kipa Ajay.
Ajay informed that the tournament was abandoned in 1997 after many of the players involved in the initial years had to take up traditional jobs as football was not a feasible career option in those days. However, thanks to improved facilities and public awareness, the players today can seriously pursue the sport. The capital’s sole stadium and venue for almost all major sporting events, the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium at Naharlagun is also currently undergoing renovation work to raise its infrastructural level.
The tournament’s organising committee is being headed by football enthusiast Kipa Takum as its chairman while Tadar Apa is the chief patron.

Major decline in global FDI
Macroeconomic fragility and policy uncertainty for investors has led to an 18 per cent decline in global foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows last year, to an estimated $1.3 trillion, the United Nations said in a new report.
The Global Investment Trends Monitor, published by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), added that the 2012 figure is close to that of 2009, when FDI flows reached their lowest level of just slightly over $1.2 trillion.
Global FDI had started to recover, reaching $1.6 trillion in 2011, according to the agency, which noted that it peaked in 2007, when it was close to $2 trillion.
“We thought it was a healthy, steady recovery and now we feel that it will take longer than we expected for the recovery of FDI,” said James Zhan, Director of UNCTAD’s Division on Investment and Enterprise, who added there was “cautious optimism” for this year and next.
“The report – which covers FDI trends in developed, developing, and transition economies, as well as in major developing regions and recipient countries – states that FDI flows fell “drastically” in developed countries to values last seen almost 10 years ago.

An appeal to Govt

I on behalf of the people of Dambuk-
Dambuk-
Therefore, I would like to appeal to the Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, particularly the PWD to issue instruction to the contractors for completion of the works within 2013. This 60 km PWD road is only the lifeline of the people of Dambuk sub—division.
It is also seen that the bridge construction work over Sisiri river in between Bomjir and Bizari village is not up the satisfaction and construction work for another bridge over Sisiri river in between Dambuk and Aohali (way to Pasighat) is also going on very slowly. Therefore, I request the state Govt to give instruction to both PWD and BRTF authority respectively to speed up bridge construction works.
Apart from the grievances mentioned above, I would also like to request the state Govt to take up flood protection works within this financial year to save Dambuk from flood fury. Flood water in Sisiri river during September 2012 had washed away many areas of the left bank of the river and also damaged properties of many surrounding villages. Similarly, flood in Dibang, Sinkin also created havoc during last flood. Govt should act fast and take flood protection measures before the flood damages everything in years to come.

Through your esteemed new paper, I would like to congratulate and Thanks Nimina Namchoom for her thoughts and efforts to bring out the importance of Festivals in country like India. The view of author will really be appreciated by the major section of the society whether it's be Arunachal Pradesh, NE or Nation as a whole. Festival plays a significant role in upbringing of creative minds and societies by giving them opportunity and chance to acquaintance with ones own people, art and culture, the interest for which is seemed to be loosing day by day. I've noticed this personally in my society where large section of teenagers refrain themselves from cultural activities, sports etc. and busy with Calling, texting, internet, gaming and more what new gadgets has to offer them.
It's true that one have to keep track with changing phase of the new G revolution that changed many lives and face of a nation but this doesn't mean you forget your root. Change is the necessity of time but the one who keeps his basic cultural instinct alive within, is a person who is really successful and worthy.
A person cannot do anything without his society and to be with society he needs to have cultural values in him. It's culture through which a person gets appreciation of the arts and human intellectual achievement.
